Interestingly, independent analysis has found HRV plays a much smaller role in Oura's Readiness score than in some competing wearables — Oura instead leans more heavily on longer-term sleep balance and body temperature trends. This is a good reminder that "readiness" or "recovery" scores across different products can weight very different inputs while producing a similarly-styled 0-100 number.
Oura's model, like WHOOP's, doesn't include food or alcohol intake at all — entirely reasonable, since a ring can't see what you eat. THE FAD was built specifically to cover that gap, alongside sleep and stress signals that can complement what a ring already tracks well.
